Connectivity has become an essential infrastructure for those living in the rural municipalities of Extremadura.
The regional analysis of the 4th Asteo Observatory, prepared by Asteo Red Neutra —a company owned by Rurix— together with Random Strategy, shows how the Internet is increasingly integrated into daily life, work, and access to services in towns across Extremadura.
According to the study, 71% of rural residents in Extremadura consider having a high-speed connection essential to enjoying a good quality of life. Nearly three out of ten even state that they would consider moving house if they could not have an adequate connection.
The presence of fiber is high among study participants: 76% claim to have a fiber optic connection in their home.
The Internet is mainly used for browsing, communicating, accessing social networks, or online banking, but in Extremadura its use for administrative procedures and online medical consultations also stands out, services that are especially relevant when physical distances are greater.
The report also focuses on teleworking and entrepreneurship as tools capable of generating new opportunities and helping to retain the population.
Connectivity allows working from small towns, digitalizing businesses, and modernizing traditional activities such as the agricultural sector. Its impact, therefore, goes beyond Internet access and extends to economic activity and territorial structure.
For Rurix, the presence of fiber infrastructure in Extremadura allows these territories to be connected with higher-capacity networks and brings them closer to the digital ecosystem as a whole, ensuring that geographic location is no longer a barrier to accessing services and opportunities.
