Asteo Red Neutra, one of the Rurix companies, has received the "Independent Fibre Provider of the Year" award at the Global Connectivity Awards, held in London during Capacity Europe. The accolade recognizes Asteo's contribution to the rollout of fiber optic infrastructure and connectivity in rural areas.
During the event, Asteo presented the connectivity corridor between Spain and Portugal, developed within the framework of the Asteo Venus project and the agreement with MEO Wholesale Solutions. The initiative drives new capacity, Longhaul, and long-distance transmission solutions to strengthen digital communications across the Iberian Peninsula.
The next stop will be in Brussels: the Asteo Venus Spain–Portugal project has been selected as a finalist for the European Digital Connectivity Awards 2026, in the "Cross-border and international connectivity" category. The award will be decided on December 2nd.
Asteo Venus envisions new long-distance terrestrial routes that are alternative and complementary to existing ones. Its objective is to increase the capacity, security, and resilience of communications between Spain and Portugal.
The project will leverage sections of the Asteo network and cross rural areas. It will also facilitate access to high-capacity infrastructure for telecommunications operators, data centers, and hyperscalers.
The initiative is funded by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Digital program, managed by HaDEA.
